"When Maia's diaphragm expands, the world shrinks"- commented once a music critique Amy Spurling. Indeed since her youth Maia Baratashvili has been captivating audiences with her powerful and emotive voice. Trained in a classical music education at Tbilisi's leading performing arts college, Maia moved into Jazz in 1995 as part of "David's Jazz Soul Club" opened in Tbilisi her home town. Since then she has gone on to perform as a leading vocalist with the Tbilisi Municipal Jazz Orchestra. She collaborated with the Georgian State Symphony Orchestra as well as numerous jazz ensembles.
Maia is actively engaged in the events taking place in Georgia, her mother country, as well as outside the country. Her performance geography includes - Germany, Norway, United Kingdom, USA, Romania, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Israel,Azerbaijan, Armenia. Her collaborations include Igor Brill and Mikhail Okun (Russia); Jorn Skogheim -(Norway); Peter Lehel - (Germany) ; The SHIN (Germany); Ray Kaczhinski (USA); Tony O' Malley (UK); George Mel (USA) Zaza Marjanishvili (USA/Georgia). She jammed on stage with contemporary music giants as George Duke and Rachelle Ferrel during their tours in Georgia. She is frequently invited to jazz festivals in her home country such as : Tbilisi Jazz Festival (organized by Eastern Promotion) and Kavkaz (Caucasus) Jazz Festival (Helen Mechitova) not only as a guest singer but as Master of Ceremony as well.
Maia Baratashvili has got several awards to acknowledge her talent and professionalism:
1996- Hands up festival , Tbilisi, Georgia - awarded as a first prize winner
1998- Margarita festival , Tbilisi, Georgia - awarded in the nomination of the best female vocalist of the year;
2000- The song of the year festival- awarded as a winner
2007 - Monte Carlo International Jazz Awards - awarded in the nomination of the best female jazz vocalist of the year;
2011- The Life is Beautiful festival, Romania - Honorary Diploma
2014 – awarded by “Georgian Brand” title
